Civil Society Organizations, (CSOs) have been asked to wake up to their responsibility of fast-tracking societal development by constantly reminding government of the immediate needs of the citizenry, instead of focusing on their personal gains.

A board member of a nongovernmental organization, Yiaga Africa, Chief Ezenwa Nwagwu made the call during a meeting with leaders and members of Civil Society Organizations in Anambra state held at Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area.

Chief Nwagwu lamented that a lot of civil society organizations have deviated from the primary responsibilities of presenting the needs of the masses to the government, and championing developments of the society.

He advised CSOs in the state to organize town hall meetings with various communities in the state with a view to developing citizen chatter of demand, which will serve as a guide to Anambra state government on the needs and expectations of the citizenry.

Chief Nwagwu pointed out that CSOs need knowledgeable, humble and patient people to thrive, and called for synergy among all the civil society organizations in Anambra for greater achievement.

The meeting which was interactive, gave members of CSOs opportunity to air their views on how to actualize their targets for the interest of the masses.
