Seven Ordinands have been made Deacons and one Deacon ordained  priest by the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor.

 

Performing the ceremony at the Cathedral Church of Saint John Ekwulobia, Bishop Ezeofor charged them to accept the holy scriptures as revealing all things necessary for eternal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

 

Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata reports that Bishop Ezeofor who charged the ordained to be diligent in prayer, reading the scripture and deepening their faith in the gospel, reminded them of the need to accept the discipline of the Church, in addition to giving due respect to those in authority.

 

In a sermon during the event, the Anglican Bishop of Offa Diocese in Kwara State, Right Reverend Olusola Akanbi charged the Ministers of God to use their positions to make positive changes in the society, adding that Christians, including the ordained, should realize that they have been commissioned by God to bear good fruits for the good of the society.

Bishop Akanbi who regretted the high rate of corruption, kidnappings, insecurity and poverty in the nation, called on the Federal Government to map out far-reaching measures to end the ugly trend.

 

The new Deacons are; Chukwunwike Anene, Chika Ezeobi, Ifesinachi Ezeokafor, Chiemeka Ezenwanne, Ikem Stephen, Paul Nnaekwe and Chinedu Onuorah, while the new Priest is Reverend Innocent Umunna.

 

In their separate remarks, some of the newly ordained, including Reverend Umunna, who is the Rector of Igbo Anglican Church, San Jose, California, USA, Reverends Anene and Onuorah, thanked God for using Bishop Ezeofor to elevate them in His vineyard, and promised to use their positions in promoting peace and unity in the society.

 

The Chancellor of Aguata Diocese, Justice Pete Obiorah led Diocesan legal team to the event which had in attendance, the President of Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry, Mrs Chinyere Ezeofor, Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Engineer Francisca Nwafulugo, Knights and ladies auxiliary, among others.

 

Highlight of the event was the administration of oath of canonical obedience, anointing of the fore heads of the Priests by the Bishop and general thanksgiving.
