The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Tender Board and Procurement has charged the twenty-one local government councils to follow Procurement Law in award of contracts.
House of Assembly Correspondent,Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the chairman of the committee, Honourable Chuka Ezenwune gave the charge when the key officials of Anaocha and Njikoka Local Government Areas appeared before it to give account of their financial transactions for the year 2020 in the conference hall of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Honourable Ezenwanne explained that the essence of the meeting was to ascertain if local governments followed the due process in discharging their duties as stipulated by Anambra State Procurement Act 2011.
He however, commended the two council areas for keeping their records straight.
In his remark, the Transition Committee chairman, Njikoka Local Government Area, Chief George Ozo appreciated the committee for living up to its oversight responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the chairman, Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Account, Sir Somtochukwu Udeze has directed all the local government areas coming for the verification of their financial transactions to come with all the documents that will enable them to do a thorough job.
Sir Somtochukwu made the call when the key officials of Ihiala Local Government Area appeared before the committee for the verification of their 2019 and 2020 audited account.
He made it clear that the meeting was not designed to witch-hunt anybody but to encourage transparency in accounting system.
Office of the Auditor General for Local Governments, led by its boss, Mr. Joseph Unachukwu appeared before the committee to defended their activities for the period under review, as the committee commended them for ensuring that things were done properly in local governments.
