The negative effects on the lives of greater percentage of Nigerian youths by the consumption of methamphetamine and other related illicit drugs have remained a source of worry to well meanin Nigerians.

 

The State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Anambra State, Barrister Charles Nwoji when he led management team of the Agency on a courtesy visit to the Anambra State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mrs Florence Ezeonye in her office at the State Command Headquarters of the Agency in Awka, said illicit drugs are threatening the future of youths.

 

The NOA Director, Barrister Nwoji, who said that the visit was to officially welcome the newly transferred NDLEA Commander to the State and to link her to the orientation programmes of the Agency, described illicit drugs as some of the enablers that stimulate the incidences of kidnapping, insecurity and violence against persons in the society.

 

He informed the Commander that NOA in the State has perfected plans to organize a town hall meeting on how to unleash a total war against the abuse of methamphetamine and other related drugs at Unubi Community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of the State.

 

The NOA State Director  promised that the programme would be extended to the three geopolitical zones of the State to ensure that the message of the event was  disseminated to all parts of the State.

 

Receiving the NOA boss and his management team in her office, the NDLEA Commander, Mrs Ezeonye, said that she felt delighted when she saw Government Agencies working together for the common good of the Society.

 

She disclosed that the Agency had recently discovered what she called clandestine laboratories in Lagos and Anambra State.

 

While describing methamphetamine as a very dangerous drug, the NDLEA boss wondered why some of the youths erroneously believe that consumption of methamphetamine is the best way to go when it has caused a lot of problems in many families and society at large.

 

In a remark, the Deputy Director Programs of NOA, Awka, Sir Joseph Uchendu, thanked Mrs Ezeonye and her team for the warm reception accorded to the NOA team, saying that he was personally delighted that NDLEA has built a standard laboratory in the State for rehabilitation of the drug addicts in the State.
