The rich cultural heritage of Awka community came to the fore at Ifite Awka when Chief Sylvester Okoye an Engineer was initiated into the prestigious Ozo Awka society, with family, friends and well-wishers gathered for the colourful event.

Correspondent Kenechukwu Chukwudi reports that Ozo institution in most Igbo communities, is the apex of title taking, which distinguishes one in the community of attaining the peak of his endeavour, both in his chosen career and community life, as it also confers responsibility on one being truthful and honest at all times.

Speaking after his celebration rite, Ozo Sylvester Okoye with the title name Ozo Ndudukandu expressed happiness for joining the Ozo Awka institution, as it confers responsibility of being truthful and fair, being part of community affairs and respect .

His Wife, Ojiefi Stella Okoye remarked that the process of joining Ozo Awka is not an easy one and prayed for God who made it possible to see them through always.

A brother to the celebrant, Mr. Emeka Okoye noted that it’s only a person of character, means and grounded in the culture of his people that can take the Ozo title, noting that it is a thing of joy for the initiated to be so recognized and wished him well.

A former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Chief Celestine Okoye and a community leader, Chief Amobi Nwokafor said that Ozo title is the peak of title taking  as it played a great role in one’s social status.

Some other Ozo Awka titled men who spoke at the event including, Chief Ndubuisi Nwakalor, Chief Augustine Umeadi and Chief Ndubuisi Igwebuike all expressed happiness for the Ozo Awka entrant and wished him well, as Egwu Ufvio, men and women unique dances featured at the event.
