It was transports of joy and echoes of gratitude by family and friends as Mr. Shedrack Odo, a benefiary of free prosthetics limb and leg from the wife of Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano(Osodieme) embarked on Thanksgiving on 5th December 2021 at St Theresa’s Catholic Parish,  at Amalla Community in Uduenu Local Government Area, Enugu State.

Twenty-four year old Shedrack who lost his right hand and leg as a result of a ghastly accident in October 2020 was assisted by Anambra First Lady’s NGO, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), following a spirited appeal in a video message, soliciting help to enable him procure prosthetics after the misfortune. Shedrack was fitted with a free prosthetic arm and leg in February 2021 after counseling, measurement and sizing in December 2020 and production by Ishk Tolaram, technical partners of CAFE.

Speaking after the Thanksgiving Mass, Mr. Odo said that he is happy, over-joyed, and speechless.

Said Shedrack about Her Excellency, Mrs. Obiano:

“She is an epitome of love, sacrifice and beauty. She is compassionate and touched by human suffering. I am so grateful to God for blessing our society with someone like her. She has touched so many lives positively. Many poeple testify about her; her generosity and her kind heart. My prayer is that God will bless her, bless her family and replenish her pocket massively beyond measure. And may she live long to see her children’s children. May she be what God created her to be for the sake of her children and every other person around her. This is my prayer through Christ our lord. Amen.”

Odo, an electrician who initially lost hope

of being able to fend for himself after the accident is now able to engage in some activities.

Touched by his peculiar story, Mrs Obiano had made contact on the phone and after inquiries, deployed the modest resources and expertise available to her NGO and ferried the young man in an ambulance to Awka, Anambra State on 9th December 2020 where he was counselled and measured to ensure that prosthetics arm and leg made to his size and specification would be produced. The prosthetics were ready for fitting before the end of February 2020.

Mrs. Obiano had counseled Shedrack not to lose hope as the free prosthetics limbs would enable him to live a normal life.

Also speaking at the Thanksgiving, mother of the beneficiary, Madam Agatha Odoh, thanked Osodieme for helping her son to walk again and prayed to God for blessings on her and the family.

The next phase of free prosthetics limbs and legs for physically challenged persons organized by CAFE, is expected to commence in Awka this week for about 256 persons whose sizes were measured three months ago.

Since it began in 2015, the CAFE Free Prosthetics Programme has given free prosthetic limbs to over two thousand five hundred beneficiaries.
