The Anambra State coordination office of the FG/IFAD VCDP has handed over modern farm implements worth over fifteen million naira to farmers’  groups in the eight participating council areas of the state.

 

The farm implements are ten Rice Threshers and Twenty Urea Supper Granular Applicators.

Distributing the implements to the beneficiaries, the state Programme Coordinator, FGN/IFAD VCDP, Mr. Nnamdi Agwuncha described the gesture as one of the strategies to encourage youths’ participation in agriculture.

 

Mr. Agwuncha, who urged the youths to take agriculture as a business, charged them to make money with the implements by rendering services to people that need the implements.

 

He also tasked the fabricator of the Rice Threshers to take them to Rice farms in the council area for practical demonstration, corrections, questions and answers.

Earlier, the Agric Production Officer, FGN/IFAD VCDP, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwukwelu noted that the exercise was aimed at improving the production of Rice and Cassava across the council areas.

 

Later during an interactive session, Mr. Chukwukwelu also distributed batteries to the farmers’ groups for the servicing of the Mini Weather Stations installed for them at their council areas for weather forecast.

 

Speaking in an interview, some of the beneficiaries, including Mr. Emmanuel Obaze from Ogbaru council area, Miss Chisom Okafor from Orumba South and Mr. Ifeanyi Asoegwu from Ihiala Local Government Area, who spoke on behalf of their groups, unanimously agreed that the implements will go a long way in enhancing their farming activities.
