Federal government through the National Emergency Management Agency has distributed some materials to persons affected by flood and windstorm.
The distribution which is the second in series were for some communities in Anambra State which includes Ayamelum, Anambra East and West that recently witnessed devastating flood and windstorm that rendered many people homeless and destroyed farm crops.
Following the damage caused by flooding and wind disaster, the federal government approved food and other items as well as living materials out of which the affected victims received two hundred and fifty water pumps, one hundred and ninety sewing machines, eighteen hair dryers and thirty-five grinding machines respectively.
Addressing the beneficiaries, at the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, Awka, the Director-General of National Emergency Management Agency, Mr Mustapha Habib Ahmed expressed grief over the extent of damage caused by the disaster stating that though the damages caused cannot be replaced, the livelihood materials presented will mitigate the effects of the disaster on those affected.
Represented by the NEMA South East Zonal Co-ordinator, Major James Eze, he noted that the support will empower those who lost l their means of livelihood to stabilize and move with their lives while urging them to make judicious use of the items and stop cutting of trees to avoid wind storm.
While appreciating NEMA unbehalf of the state government, the State coordinator of SEMA, Chief Paul Odenigbo noted that the items were part of the 2018 flood affected people, that some items had earlier been shared noting that the one at hand was completion of what the federal government wants to do to the affected people.
Speaking to newsmen after receiving the items, Mr Mike Osita who received water pump, Mrs Chika Okafor hair dryer and Uche Osita thanked NEMA for coming to their aid stating that the items given to them will add value and help to put food on their tables.
