The traditional ruler of Umueri Igwe Benneth Emeka said the commencement of commercial activities at the Anambra State International Passenger and Cargo airport Umueri has given Anambra and Umueri a high international recognition in the aviation industry.
Igwe Emeka who stated this while expressing gratitude to God and Governor Willie Obiano for the reality of a functional International airport sited at Umueri noted that it was a consummation of a journey that started in 2010 and finally became a reality through the efforts and commitment of Governor Obiano, saying that his joy and that of Um her I people knew no bounds when the first commercial flight from Abuja and the second one from Lagos with passengers landed at the airport and went back with passengers to Abuja and Lagos respectively, adding that this marks the beginning of good things that will come to Umueri.
The Umueri Monarch maintained that it also marks the beginning of economic activities that is coming to Anambra state and Umueri as youths will be gainfully employed and will also increase the state internally generated revenue.
He commended governor Obiano for his commitment and perseverance that made him to be able to complete the airport project within a short period of time, thanking Umueri people for their cooperation and loyalty as according to him, the quantum of land given to government were much urging them to be of good behaviour and extend cooperation to the airport management.
Also, the traditional ruler of Ihiala, Igwe Thomas Obidiegwu said the commencement of commercial flight operation at the Anambra state International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri will bring Anambra to the world map, open up window of employment, shore up internally generated revenue and boost the state economic activities.
Speaking to newsmen at the Oluoha Palace, Okohia, Ihiala Local Council Area, Igwe Obidiegwu remarked that the airport operations will save Ndi Anambra particularly businessmen the time and money that would have been expended if they had to travel to Asaba and Enugu airport to board flights or collect their imported goods.
The Royal father described the airport as one of the greatest legacies the Obiano administration has bequeathed to the incoming Soludo government and one that will provide far reaching economic and social benefits to not only Ndi Anambra but the entire Nigerians and foreign tourists and commended Governor Obiano for building the airport which has eluded the state for so long.
According to Igwe Obidiegwu, the area around where the airport situates will enjoy massive development and a great boom in economic activities and described the project as a dream come true and one that will turn around the economic fortunes of Ndi Anambra.
He also extolled the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority for giving the clearance for resumption of flight operations at the airport, describing its intervention as expedient and timely.
