Thirteen persons have been ordained deacons and priests, while two priests were installed Canons and four Canons were collated Archdeacons by the Bishop Diocese of Niger West, Right Reverend Johnson Ekwe at the Cathedral Church of Saint Gabriel Umueri, Anambra East Council Area.
Performing the function, Bishop Ekwe charged them to be diligent in prayers, read the Bible and indulge in all studies that will deepen their faith and fit them to uphold the truth of the gospel against error and as well as fashion their lives according to the way of Christ.
Correspondent Njideka Okoye reports that Bishop Ekwe who urged them to promote unity, peace and love among all people, especially among those they serve, advised their wives to be supportive to their husbands for effective ministry noting that Ordination is not a ceremonial event but anointing and equipping of priests for the work of God.
Delivering a sermon, the Retreatant and the Clerical Synod Secretary of the Diocese, Venerable Charles Chukwurah who spoke on “The minister of the end time church” said that every dispensation has its challenge, noting that this dispensation has many challenges including false teachings, advising the priests to know their specific calling to effectively pursue what God called them for.
Venerable Dr. Chukwurah said that God has been anointing and empowering ministers for his work as the church needs ministers who will continue with the work of redemption and salvation, noting that end time church needs minister whose hearts are prepared to preach the gospel, urging them to teach the word of God without compromise.
Expressing their appreciation, one of the new Archdeacons Venerable Eberechukwu Egbuji and a new Priest Reverend Nathan Okoye, thanked God for the elevation and for chosen them to serve in his vineyard, promising not to disappoint.
The priests before the ordination made some declarations and took oaths of canonical obedience, of submission and of allegiance to God.
Some of the dignities at the event were the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Benneth Emeka and the Regent of Oba Chief Prince Noel Ezenwa represented by two cabinet members, Chief Felix Uzor and Chief Felix Nwosu.
