Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy has inaugurated its fifth batch of One Youth One Skill programme for Anambra youths as a way of curbing unemployment in the society,

The programme held in Awka was designed to train and educate Anambra youths on skills that will help create wealth, and refocus them on entrepreneurial development.

 

The youth will be trained on confectioneries, cosmetology, close-circuit Television, Barbing and shoe making.

While inaugurating the programme, the Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Professor Theresa Obiekezie, who called on the participants to see the training as an opportunity to be self-reliant and self-employed in the society, said that after the exercise, only those who are qualified will be certified by the Ministry in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, as well as receive starter package to start up their own businesses.

While commending Governor Willie Obiano for supporting the youth on entrepreneurial development, Professor Obiekezie, stated that about one hundred and fifty youths have registered so far in the fifth batch out of one hundred and eighty youths  expected by the ministry.

In a remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Louisa Ezeanya, urged the participants to maximize the opportunity given them by the state government.

She regretted that due to unemployment, some teeming youths have engaged in social vices including stealing, murdering, prostitution and cultism, urging youths not to depend on white collar jobs, but to focus their minds on entrepreneurship.

In a speech by a resource person who spoke on the programme, Dr. Ikechukwu Umeh, urged the participants to see the programme as opportunity to be progressives in life which will serve as a solid template for progress in their entrepreneurial ventures while the Chief Coach for the Skill, Mr. Obinna Nwakpadolu, enjoined them to remain committed throughout the training.
