The Anambra and Delta State governments have activated joint task force on traffic management to ensure free flow of traffic at Bridgehead and environs during Yuletide.
Representative of the two States visited the foot of Bridge-Head, both at Onitsha and Asaba ends
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu led the Anambra team while Chief Policy Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Professor Sylvester Monye led the Delta team.
Professor Chukwulobelu explained that the initiative dates back to a meeting between the two governments in 2015 where they resolved and agreed to make such effort every Christmas season.
While announcing that the two state governments have ordered the immediate removal of all checkpoints or IGR collection points at the foot of the bridge from both ends, the SSG reiterated the commitment of the two states at pooling needed resources to ensure safe and smooth journey for commuters.
Also speaking ,Professor Monye said they will work together to ensure that the enforcement is carried out twenty four hours everyday and called on commuters especially dignitaries from both sides of the divide to exercise patience as security operatives have been mandate to arrest and impound any vehicle that breaches the traffic protocol.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Afam Mbanefo said that the programme would run up till January 2022, assuring everyone coming into and out of Anambra state, of free movement.
Anambra State Commissioner for Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Army, Civil Defence Corps, Anambra Traffic Management Agency, OCHA Brigade, among others were part of the visit.
