Governor Willie Obiano has responded to the petition by the Ihiala Progress Union over the disappearance in Ebonyi State since November third, of five engineers of NELAN Consulting Firm based in Enugu, pledging to look into their complaint with his Ebonyi State counterpart, Chief David Umahi.
A release signed by the commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba said that three of the engineers are from Anambra State, including their leader, Engineer Nelson Onyemeh, an indigene of Ihiala.
The engineers were abducted while working on the Ebonyi Ring Road at Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, financed by the African Development Bank, AfDB.
Governor Umahi reportedly informed a security council meeting of the state on November thirtieth that the engineers were kidnapped, killed and buried by Ezza Warriors, but has yet to reach the families or NELAN Consulting Firm to brief them on the development.
Umahi’s failure to inform the families of the five engineers on the fate of their members caused the Ihiala Progress Union to write a petition to Governor Obiano requesting him to find out the true situation from Governor Umahi.
In the letter, Ihiala leaders requested to know the burial site of Engineer Onyemeh if actually he has been killed as reported by the Ebonyi State Governor for them to exhume and give him a befitting burial in their hometown, where he was an outstanding philanthropist and community leader.
