Anambra City Stadium, one of the legacy projects of Governor Willie Obiano will be officially opened for use on December 28, 2021.
Governor Obiano stated this shortly after an inspection visit to the project which is about ninety five percent complete.
According to the Governor who expressed satisfaction at the quality of work, the project is FIFA-rated which he said will be highly beneficial to sports-loving ndi Anambra.
The Governor stated that the innaugural football match which will happen on the twenty eighth of December is open to the public and free of cost, pointing out that events of that day will be the official commissioning of the project.
Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr. Tony Oli who explained that the match would have been played on wednesday, 22nd December, but for some finishing touches on the project.
He stated that the match is the finals of the under 17 academicals, both male and female and extended the invitation ndi Anambra to come and witness the match.
Contractor of the project, Mr Ebby Egbe who pleaded for extension of days, assured that the project would have been ready by the scheduled date.
He noted that they specialise in pitches, explaining that they are now at the installation of the synthetic turf including the green area and the white lines but now at the ingrass stabiliser, emphasizing that the technology is closest to natural grass
While further explaining that Special sprinkler systems will be installed on the pitch, Mr. Egbe expressed optimism that the pitch will eventually turn out to the best, as the end users will testify.
Meanwhile, ABS observed that the dressing room and other facilities including the sanitary area is ready.
Governor Obiano thereafter embarked on inspection of the Anambra International Convention Center Awka where he was recieved by the Commissioner for Housing, Architect, Mike Okonkwo who explained that finishing touches are being put on the project to give it ndi Anambra the best.
