The Anambra State Operations Coordinating Unit in collaboration with the National Social Safety Nets Programme, NASSCO of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development is to embark on second wave Rapid Response Register in the twenty-one local government councils in the state.
NASSCO was established in 2016 by the Nigeria Government in partnership with the World Bank to strengthen social safety nets and social protection system in Nigeria to help end extreme poverty and to promote shared prosperity.
The coordinator of the Anambra State Operations Coordinating Unit, Engineer Bede Okoli announced this at a stakeholders’ sensitization meeting on second wave Rapid Response Register, aimed at creating awareness on the nationwide rollout of the Rapid Response Register, RRR, scheme.
He said the register will serve as a database to provide emergency social assistance to mostly urban and semi-urban households that were made vulnerable by the economic shocks of the COVID-19 pandemic and future challenging emergencies.
According to him, the agency has listed affected communities in all the twenty-one council areas with a unique USSD code for each location to easily enroll all affected applicants free of cost for the five-thousand-naira monthly stipends for a period of six months.
He further stressed that despite the widespread impact of the pandemic on livelihoods, the RRR will target households based on the resources available and called on religious groups, Presidents General, traditional institutions, local government councils and stakeholders to drive the enrollment with their USSD codes to ensure that people benefit from the mapped-out fund made available for the state.
