Activities was at its peak on the Christmas Eve, at various Parks, Markets, Roads, and other public places in Awka and environs, as people travel for Christmas celebration.
This was observed when Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, visited above listed places to monitor level of activities in the areas.
Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that despite the fact that people are complaining of hardship and poor circulation of money in Nigeria presently, the Transport Company of Anambra State, TRACAS Park at the Unizik Junction Awka, Star Sunny Park at Arroma Junction Awka and others witnessed people in their numbers, travelling to their different destinations, probably to celebrate the Christmas with their families, loved ones and friends.
A lot of travelers were seen stranded at the parks, as there were limited vehicles to convey them to their destinations.
At Eke-Awka Market, the ABS observed that it was very busy more than ever, as sellers, buyers and vehicles use the expressway at the front of the market more.
ABS crew also visited Nkwo-Amaenyi Market Awka and roadside shops at the Unizik Junction Awka, where people were also seen shopping for the Christmas, while roads within Awka and environs were also very busy than other days, testifying that no matter the level of economic downturn, the Christmas must be celebrated and “Ndi Igbo ga-eruriri uno.
Speaking to the ABS, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TRACAS, Dr Ifeoma Madukasi, who rated people’s travel this year very high, advised road users to abide by all road rules and regulations for their safety and free flow of traffic.
In separate interviews, some traders at Eke-Awka Market who deal on babies and adult wears, including Mrs. Anwulika Epundu-Okonkwo and Miss Chiamaka Abah, who lamented low sales, disclosed that they recorded more sales this year than last year when COVID-19 disrupted activities world over, and recommended that people should try as much as possible to extend a helping hand to the less privileged.
For another trader at the market, Mr. Mmaduaburochukwu Nwana, who decried poor turnover in the market this season, called on Nigerian leaders to pay attention to youth empowerment and agriculture to revitalize the country’s economy and lessen the sufferings of the poor masses.
