A new President-General has been elected for Amawbia Town Union.

He is Mr Godwin Aronu polled a total of four hundred and eighty-five votes to defeat his opponent, Mr Ebele Nwufo who garnered two hundred and sixty-four votes.

Other members of the executive are Mr. Nnamdi Onwuzulibo Vice President-General, Mr Anthony Okonkwo Treasurer, Mr. Nzube Menuba Publicity Secretary, while Mr. Kanayochukwu Oyekwe is the Auditor.

The election which took place at the Eziokpaligwe square Amawbia was witnessed by indigenes both at home and in the diaspora who converged on the square to select a new set of executive that will pilot the affairs of the town union for the next three years.

The election which commenced with the accreditation of delegates, was observed by officials of the Anambra State government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

Addressing the people before the election, the immediate past President-General of the town, Mr Ebele Nwufo thanked the people for the privilege afforded him and his executive to serve the town expressing the hope that the new executive will consolidate on the achievements recorded.

Some observers of the election, including Mr. Prince Nwoye and Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe acknowledged that the conduct of the election was free, fair and credible and enjoined all to rally round the new executive for a successful leadership and achievement.

They advised the new executive to be creative, courageous, proactive, and shun greed and avarice but lead with the fear of God.

In his appreciation speech shortly after the election, the new President-General Mr.  Aronu who thanked the people for the opportunity to serve, assured of running an open-door policy.
