The Traditional ruler of Eziagu in Orumba South Local Government Area Igwe Bernard Emejuo has celebrated his maiden Ofala festival.

Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata reports that the historic event which took place at the Community Secondary School Eziagu was a tourist attraction of sort as people from home and in the diaspora came in their numbers to thank God for the peace, progress as well as stability  in Eziagu community.

In his remark, Igwe Emejuo, who appreciated God for the success of his first Ofala, said that he has achieved a lot just within six years of his reign, while appealing to the President-General of Eziagu to sustain support for the well-being and progress of the community.

He called on the State government to give the community a sense of belonging by making their road more accessible for human and vehicular movements.

In an address, the President-General of Eziagu Improvement Union, Mr Ernest Obi, appealed to well- meaning sons and daughters of the town to see the needs of the community as their major priority for progress and development even as he expressed gratitude to the traditional ruler for upholding credibility and fear of God.

The Member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo, traditional rulers of Umuawulu and Nanka, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu and Igwe Godwin Ezeilo respectively, who felicitated with Igwe Emejuo said the event was part of sustaining and promoting Igbo culture and tradition.

Earlier in a homily, during a holy mass to mark  the event, the Parish Priest of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Eziagu, Reverend Father Casmir Osigwe, urged illustrious individuals of the community to deploy their wealth to the development of the community.

The event equally featured conferment of chieftaincy title and presentation of certificates to illustrious sons and daughters of the community who contributed immensely to the development and progress of the town.

Various cultural groups took turn to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Eziagu community while there were also   masquerade displays at the event.
