The rich cultural heritage of Ndi Uke, Idemili North Council Area was brought to the fore as the Traditional Ruler, Igwe Charles Agbala, celebrated his 2021 Ofala Festival.
The event took place at the palace of the traditional ruler in Uruanaeze Village of the Community with different cultural and masquerade displays featuring at the event.
Correspondent, Amaka Chibuzor Okoye reports that the ofala festival which witnessed presence of men and women as well as youths of the community who dressed in different traditional costumes got to its peak when Igwe Agbala made his outing with his cabinet members led by Igba Eze drum.
He danced round the arena in admiration of his guests before his wife, Lolo Maureen Agbala presented the kola nut.
Some other Traditional Rulers in the State were also on ground to felicitate with Igwe Agbala as the Chairman Idemili North and South Traditional Rulers Council whose ofala comes once in five years.
Performing the kolanut rituals, Igwe Agbala said Ofala is the highest festival performed by a traditional ruler in thanking God for what he did in the past year, looks into the activities of the community for the outgoing year and map out plans on how to have a successful year ahead which is called “Igu Aro”.
Felicitating with Igwe Agbala and Ndi Uke, the traditional ruler of Abatete, Igwe Emeka Efobi and his Ogidi counterpart, Igwe Alex Onyido, thanked God for giving Igwe Agbala the wherewithal to pilot the affairs of Ndi Uke, stating that since he mounted the throne, there is enormous development and progress in the community, calling on Ndi Uke to support him strongly.
The National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo in his goodwill message noted that said they are all Umuidemili and that Ofala attracts peace, love, progress and unity as during the festival, Igwe blesses the land while the gods of their land also bless them, commending Ndi Uke for the unity of purpose they exhibit.
Speaking on behalf of the cabinet, High Chief Chukwuemeka Enendu said ofala Uke is a moment of thanksgiving to God for what he has been doing in their land,
noting that Igwe Agbala is a God sent to them and has continued to ensure there is cordial relationship between him and all organs and arms of the community.
Meanwhile, the Ofala Festival started with a holy mass, where Igwe Chukwuma Agbala together with his subjects thanked God for his mercies and greatness in their lives.
Conferment of Chieftaincy titles and displays by women group, masquerading and dancing to the tunes of Uvie drum by Igwe Agbala added glamour to the event.
