A not-for-profit and philanthropic organization, The Royal Obi Malize (TROM) Foundation has organised maiden Science Teachers Star Award and announced one thousand dollar – scholarship prize for  best graduating science student In Ukpor, Nnewi South Council Area.
Chimezie Umeh ABS Nnewi Bureau Chief reports that the Science Teachers Star Award  was held at the  first Annual Lecture of the Foundation which has the theme: “Accelerating Growth and Development: The Role of Education.”
Science teachers from secondary schools in Ukpor, Nnewi South council area were rewarded for their dedication to duty and impacting knowledge on the young ones in different areas of specialization including  mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry and ICT.
In  his opening remarks, the Chairman and founder of the foundation, Prince CY Malize highlighted the mission and vision of the foundation which he said is to produce the best science students by first recognizing and motivating science teachers which will in turn breed  science students that will drive technological development in the country
Delivering  a paper  titled “The Role of Education in the Economic Development of Ukpor Community” the keynote speaker and Head, Department of Mass Communication,  Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Professor Angela Nwammuo urged the students to always utilise and maximise the various skills learnt both in the school and at home during the course of their development to be more productive in the society .
Speaking later, wife of the founder    and member of the Advisory Board Lady Chizor Malize and Secretary of the Foundation Prince Chinonso Malize  expressed satisfaction with  the success of the event and urged individuals, non governmental agencies and government to  appreciate and motivate  teachers as they hold the keys to the growth of education in the society.
The climax of the event was the award of One Hundred Thousand Naira each to five of the teachers that emerged winners in various science departments, ten thousand naira consolation cash prizes to all the participating teachers and also pronouncement of One Thousand Dollar scholarship award to best secondary school graduate in Ukpor Community by the foundation.
The event was attended by the Presidents General of towns in Nnewi South led by the President General, Ukpor Improvement Union, Chief Izuchukwu Nwawulu, and members of the academia from different Higher institutions which include Professor Ada Anyamene and Reverend Father Barrister Maurice Izunwa of Faculty of Law,  Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka , friends and well wishers of the family among others.
