It was a triple celebration for the Okafor family of Akabor village Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area, as they celebrated their mother, Mrs. Victoria Okafor’s sixty-third birthday, dedicated their new house, and marked seventy-eighth posthumous birthday of their father, late Chief Edwin Okafor, who died eleven years ago.
Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that the event, which commenced with pontifical holy mass presided over by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor, attracted men of high repute from across Nigeria; who assembled to share in the joy of Okafor family.
In a homily during the mass, Bishop Ezeokafor commended the family for their philanthropic dispositions in the society and the Church, and asked others to emulate them in celebrating their parents when they are still alive.
He prayed for more of God’s blessings on the family, and more life to the celebrant, Mrs. Okafor.
One of the sons of the celebrant, Chief Tony Okafor, also known as ‘Ebubechukwu Uzo Mbaukwu’, and his wife, Vivian, thanked God for the life of their mother, saying that they organized the event to celebrate her longevity, and prayed God to continue to keep her alive in good health.
Another son of the celebrant, Mr. Tochukwu Okafor, and the first daughter of the family, Mrs. Ebele Anikwe-Okafor pointed out that it is necessary for children to always celebrate their parents when they are still alive and not when they are late, praying that God will continue to keep their mother to enjoy the fruits of her labour.
The celebrant, Mrs. Okafor who thanked God for keeping her to witness her sixty-third birthday, thanked the children for celebrating her in a huge way, and promised to continue to serve God and humanity throughout her remaining years on earth.
The event, which featured dance by the celebrant in company of family and friends, blessing of the new house by Bishop Ezeokafor, and cutting of birthday cake, was attended by the Anambra State Deputy Governor-elect, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Traditional ruler of Mbaukwu community, Igwe Peter Anugwu, among other dignitaries.
