Barrister Theodora Igwegbe Sworn – in As Anambra New HOS

Barrister Theodora Okwy Igwegbe has been sworn-in as the new Anambra State Head of Service.

 

Governor Willie Obiano performed the ceremony at the Executive Chambers, Government House, Awka.

 

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that she will take over from Barrister Harry Uduh whose tenure expired last year, 2021.

While urging her to bring her wealth of experience to bear on the new position, Governor Obiano charged her to maintain discipline, ethics, decorum and everything which the service stands for.

 

The Governor who noted that part of her duty is to provide leadership and direction in the civil service, advise the governor on appointments, foster professionalism among civil servants, among others, explained that she was sent to a one-year training program in Jos where she graduated in flying colours.

The Governor acknowledged the good work of her predecessor, Barrister Uduh for which he was presented with a plaque

 

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Uju Nworgu who described it as an epoch-making event, recalled that Barrister Uduh’s tenure ended on 31st December 2021 and explained that in order to avoid vacuum, a new HOS was appointed.

While thanking the outgoing Head of Service and pointing out that he performed creditably, Barrister Nworgu added that it is within the Governor’s constitutional prerogative to perform the function as the new task of co-ordinating the civil service is onerous.

Responding, Barrister Igwegbe appreciated the Governor for the appointment, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in her.

Born 6 September, 1965, Barrister Igwegbe hails from Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

 

Apart from being a consultant to the British Council and appointed into the Anambra State Ministry of Justice as a Legal Officer II in 1997, she also acquired a number of certificates including Bachelor’s degree in English Education, LLB, BL, among others.

She rose to the rank of a director and later appointed a Permanent Secretary in the Service of Anambra State Government in 2020 prior to her nomination to attend the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 43 2021, at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru.

 

She is married to Chief Anthony Osita Igwegbe, a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and blessed with five children.

Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dr. Paschal Agbodike, Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, Secretary to the  State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Members of the State Executive Council, Former National Chairman of APGA, Senator Victor Umeh, Former Head Of Service, Barrister Harry Udu,  Permanent Secretaries, Traditional Ruler of Omor, Igwe Chris Oranu, Traditional Ruler of Awkuzu Professor Charles Anikweze, among others, attended the ceremony.

 

On arrival the Governor had inspected and taken salute from  guard of honour.
