National Assembly workers under the aegis of Parliament Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, has staged a peaceful protest to demand their outstanding national minimum wage as well as fifteen months CONPECULIAR allowances.
They specifically demanded for the immediate payment of eight months outstanding minimum wage.
The chairman of PASAN National Assembly, NASS, Sunday Sabiyi and Vice Chairman of National Assembly Service Commission, NASC, M. A Liman who led the protest also threatened to embark on strike as from today , January 10, 2022.
They demanded full implementation of the National Minimum Wage signed into law in 2019 as well as the revised condition of service.
A communique dated January 6, 2022, and issued after the joint NASS/NASC Congress held in Abuja containing the Congress resolution was transmitted to the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan; Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabimila; Chairman, National Assembly Service Commission, NASC, Engr Ahmed Mashi; Director of Department of State Service, DSS, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, at the National Assembly and Head of Sergeant-at-Arms.
The workers in the communiqué accused the National Assembly management of “breach of the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, entered with PASAN on the 13th of April, 2021 on the full implementation of the new national minimum wage Act 2019 and the Revised condition of service, as at 31st December 2021, which is the fourth quarter of 2021.
