Communities in Anambra state have been charged to emulate the Neni template in road infrastructure and maintenance of roads in their localities as a way of fostering development of their communities.
The Anambra state Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha gave the charge at Neni Town Hall, Neni, in Anaocha Council Area during the third annual lecture series and award for excellence Organized by Martina Chinyere Enidom Foundation.
Correspondent Ngozi Obileri covered the event and reports that according to Professor Omenugha, getting all the communities to construct and maintain roads including the ones built by government is a sure way of fostering development of every community as she said that Anambra state has quality men that can help government to accelerate development .
Professor Omenugha commended Ndi Neni for the innovation which she said has brought unprecedented development in the community both in health and education sectors, applauding the Martina Chinyere Enidom foundation for steering the wheel of development in the community.
Speaking at the event , the chairman on the occasion and the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka said that people should be talking about community-based government and should not wait for government for infrastructural development of their communities, charging other communities of the state to copy the Neni style of community development for the good of all.
Chief Chidoka said that Neni community has given ndi Anambra a template to work with not just in education but also in health and education sector, noting that anyone who does not invest in education is not laying any foundation for the future.
In a lecture titled “state government and community partnership in development initiative: the Neni example’’, the Executive Chairman, Paul-B Nigeria Limited, and the Chairman Board of Trustees, Martina Chinyere Enidom Foundation, Engineer Paul Enidom, went down memory lane on how the foundation renovated primary schools in the community with modern facilities, renovated hospitals in the community, and how it facilitated communal fund raising for maintenance of roads done by government and individuals in the community, including late Chief Anthony Enukeme and others.
Engineer Enidom, said that for communities in the state to have assess roads and maintain them, they should emulate the Neni example as government alone cannot do it.
Earlier in a speech, the Executive Secretary, Martina Chinyere Enidom Foundation, Mrs Mitchell Onugbolu explained that the foundation now has one hundred and fifty beneficiaries with twenty-one undergraduates, adding that the lecture series was aimed at exposing the people to ways of improving in morals and intellectual and urged the students to shun vices capable of marring their future.
The event featured presentation of free books to students and teachers of the foundation by the Executive Secretary of the foundation Mrs Onugbolu as well as presentation of awards of excellence to some individuals, including Chief Chinedu Madubuko of Adazi-Ani and Chief Ikenna Okafor of Akwaeze communities respectively.
