ABS To Partner NAU In Hosting 23rd International Conference Of African Council For Communication Education

Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS Awka will partner Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka for the hosting of the 23rd International Conference of African Council for Communication Education.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ABS, Dr. Uche Nworah stated this when a delegation from the Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka paid him a courtesy visit at the station’s corporate headquarters in Awka.

Correspondent, Chibuzo Obidike reports that African Council for Communication Education aims at promoting journalism and communication education, developing communication resources in African countries, promoting awareness among African governments, policy-makers and planners on the role of communication and mass media in national development through training institutes.

Dr. Nworah, who thanked the group for the visit, emphasized that ABS is for Ndi Anambra and people beyond the State, and will always prioritize programmes that will uplift the State, people of the State and the entire South-East, and pledged the full support of the station to the programme.

Earlier while briefing the ABS boss on the reason for the visit, the Chairman of the conference organizing committee, Dr. Obiorah Edogor said the institution and ABS have had good partnership over the years, and appreciated the station for assisting the institution.

While stating that council is a major professional body that unites all media practitioners, Dr. Edogor said the conference is slated for 25th to 28th October 2022, and equally asked that ABS enrolls in the African Council for Communication Education, ACCE, in order to benefit and make the conference a huge success.

The Head of Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Associate Professor Cornelius Ukwueze revealed that the department got approval from the Academic Staff Union of Universities,ASUU, for the visit, and explained that the ongoing strike by the union is justified, calling for a review of members’ salaries.

Applauding the choice of the committee for the conference, the Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha commended Mass Communication department of the university for maintaining the pacesetter status that the State is known for, and assured that the State will give them necessary support to succeed.
