Communities in Anambra South Senatorial District comprising Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Aguata, Orumba North and South, as well as Nnewi North and South local government areas have unanimously conferred the Chieftaincy titles of ‘‘Omelukokwulu’’ on Governor Willie Obiano and ‘‘Ugogbaolaedo’’ on his wife, Dr. Ebelechukwu.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the Traditional rulers of the communities performed the function when they paid a thank you visit to the Governor at his Aguleri country home.
The thank you visit, according to the Traditional rulers, was imperative in order to applaud the Governor for his ingenuity, which they said has transformed all sectors of the State economy.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Obiano, who decried the negative security situation in the senatorial district, called on the Traditional rulers to utilize their youths and vigilante services to nip the situation in the bud, as well as work with law enforcement agencies by giving them right information.
Speaking on the choice of the Governor-Elect, Governor Obiano said Professor Chukwuma Soludo was the best among candidates in the last governorship election, and promised to continue praying for him in order to continue the good works of past administrations in the State.
He thanked the Traditional rulers for the honour, asking them to launch an urgent attack on the menace of Methamphetamine, popularly called mkpulimiri in their respective communities.
The Deputy Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Sunday Okafor, who recalled the Governor’s intervention in the security sector, which he said later resulted in visible success stories across other sectors, thanked his colleagues for such thoughtfulness, pointing out that Traditional rulers in Anambra State are being respected today because of the Governor’s continued attention and interventions.
The Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, South, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo of Nanka said Governor Obiano is a gift to the country, just as the Vice Chairman, South, Igwe Emmanuel Nnabuife of Isseke commended the Governor for being passionate and living out his vision for the State, emphasizing that his legacies will not be forgotten.
On her part, the wife of the Governor, Dr. Ebelechukwu, who expressed delight over the titles, asked Anambra women to continue to take care of the communities for sustainable development.
The Grand Patron of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Kenneth Orizu, Traditional ruler of Aguleri, Igwe Mike Idigo, National Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Primus Odili, Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor, Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, Special Adviser to the Governor on Town Union and Chieftaincy Matters, Barrister Vera Okonkwo, among others attended the event that climaxed with the conferment of the titles to the Governor and wife while Ufie musicians entertained the audience.
