The Modern Science Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria, a recognized body for traditional medicine practitioners under the Federal Ministry of Health, has called on genuine practitioners to register with the body for a comprehensive database.
Correspondent Kenechukwu Chukwudi reports that in other to give traditional medicine it’s pride of place while also regulating its activities, a department was created for it at the federal ministry of health headed by Dr. Ibrahim Dada.
Addressing the press, the National Taskforce leader of the group, Mr. John-Mary Ibeka, noted that the group would ensure an end to quackery and perpetuation of evil by traditional medicine practitioners while also facilitating the training and certification of genuine practitioners by the Ministry of Health.
While disclosing that the registration will commence in March and last for one month, Mr. Ibeka called on traditional rulers and Presidents General of various communities to beckon on practitioners within their domain to register.
Members of the group, who spoke at the briefing, including Mr. Vincent Okonkwo and Mr. Enebeli Idowu, emphasized the need to bring traditional medicine to a reputable standard while also working with Nigerian Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA and other relevant agencies of government to achieve set objectives.
