The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has charged officers of 6 Division of the Nigerian Army to square up with oil thieves in the South-South region, whom he said are sabotaging the country’s economy by indulging in oil bunkering and other illegal activities.
The Army Chief, who gave the charge while addressing troops during an operational tour of the Division’s Area of Responsibility, described the oil and gas sector as the mainstay of the country’s economy, and maintained that the activities of oil bunkerers and illegal refiners are inimical to the economy of the nation, charging the troops to confront all forms of oil theft and associated crimes with renewed vigor and resolve.
While commending the troops’ commitment and sacrifice while operating in difficult environment, General Yahaya advised them not to betray the trust reposed in them by the nation to protect the oil and gas sector, adding that they must remain apolitical.
He assured the military officers that their competence and diligence will be rewarded, just as indolence and untoward behaviour will be punished.
