Not fewer than three-point-eight million insecticide-treated mosquito nets are to be distributed free to residents of the State as part of measures by government to prevent malaria.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, disclosed this during the inauguration of the members of Insecticide Treated Nets Campaign Coordination Network, ICCN, in Awka.
The members of the team have their terms of reference as tracking progress towards implementation of the project, address bottlenecks at the highest levels, identify potential advocates to act as net Ambassadors, mobilisation of resources and monitoring and addressing security issues among others.
According to Commissioner Okpala the distribution would cut across all the twenty-one local government areas of the state, and recalled that the last time such exercise was carried out in the state was in 2017.
Also speaking, Malaria Consortium Senior Manager, Mrs. Laitan Adeniyi, revealed that the inauguration of the members of Insecticide Treated Nets Campaign Coordination Network, ICCN which will be chaired by the state Commissioner for Health is expected to hold meetings for the implementation of the ITN mass distribution activities.
She pointed out that the distribution will commence from eightieth May and end on 8th July for the reduction of malaria incidence in the state.
She sought the corporation of all especially residents of the state to enable them implement the net campaign in the state.
