The incoming governor of Rotary International District 9142, Dr Grace Okaro has called on the international community to place high premium on empowerment of the girl child.
Speaking on the sidelines of the recently celebrated ‘International Women’s Day’ in Awka, Dr Okaro, who is the first female governor of the Rotary International District 9142, described women as the bedrock of the society and called for their proper engagement in governance.
While describing women as better managers of resources and efforts should be made by government at all levels for their proper integration, Dr Okaro commended the wife of the governor of Anambra State, Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano for all her empowerment programmes adding that the Caring Family Enhancement, CAFÉ, Initiative had brought succor to many indigent widows across Anambra State.
She assured to work with the wife of the incoming governor, Nonye Soludo to achieve the programme of women in rotary across the South East and South/South with the aim of encouraging more women into rotary activities.
Dr Okaro commended the assistant governor of Rotary in Zone ten, Rotarian Toochi Amalu and President, Rotary Club of Awka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Rotarian Abuchi Nwozor for all their efforts, calling for its sustainability.
