The Diocese of Awka, Anglican Communion, has assured that it would give all needed support to the incoming administration in Anambra state, with optimism that it will consolidate and work more than the outgoing government.

 

The Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, gave the assurance during the 2022 Annual Diocesan Council of Laity Retreat, held at Saint Luke’s Parish Agulu.

 

Correspondent, Emmanuel Chigbata reports that  Archbishop Ibezim, who presided over the eighteenth annual retreat, extolled the outgoing government for her signature projects done in the state, praying that the incoming administration will do better.

The prelate who said the diocese is happy to have Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim an Anglican as the Deputy Governor-elect, commended the council of laity for the retreat saying it would increase the growth of the church and the society at large.

 

Describing the theme of the retreat ‘Do not be Deceived’ as apt, Archbishop Ibezim lauded the contributions of the diocese in building the Renaissance Modern Polytechnic Mbaukwu, a vocational institute, which he said will make education available to students, solve problems of unemployment and un-directional restiveness of young people.

 

In his address, the President of Awka Diocesan Council of Laity, Sir Emma Ezenwaji, who thanked God for this year’s council retreat and Archbishop Ibezim for his encouragement, expressed confidence that the retreat will transform the laity into better Christians that can no longer allow Satan’s entry into their lives through any form of deception.

In his remark, the Vicar, Saint Stephen’s Church, Agulu and Archdeacon, on the Lake Archdeaconry Agulu, Venerable Silas Ike, said that the retreat was necessary to energize and empower the laity for them to assist the ordained in carrying out the gospel of Christ to the grassroot.

 

 

 

Some of the participants including the President of Rotary Club of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Rotarian Abuchi Nwozor, and Chairman of Amawbia Laity council, Professor Ikechukwu Morah, charged members of the laity to live to up to their responsibility for the proper propagation of God’s gospel.

 

The event attracted the traditional ruler of Agulu, Igwe Innocent Obodoakor, who assured full support to the Anglican Communion, President Mother’s Union and Women’s Guild of the Province of the Niger, Mrs. Chioma Ibezim, principals in various Anglican schools, students and Diocesan legal team.

 

The event was capped with moving of the motion for the support and continuation of the Renaissance Modern Polytechnic by the laity and the celebration of Archbishop Ibezim award as Anambra State Grand commander.
