Nnewi North Local Government Area has won the Soludo Victory Under seventeen Football Championship Trophy after defeating their Onitsha North counterpart by five goals to nothing in the finals that took place at the Awka township stadium.

Ihiala Local Government Area had earlier defeated the Njikoka team in a third-place match with four-one.

Correspondent Valentine Mbadugha reports that Soludo Victory Under Seventeen Football Championship as organized by the all-Soludo Support Groups was a football tournament that engaged all the twenty-one Local Government Areas in a football league.

The tournament which was kicked off by the Chairman of All Soludo Support Groups Mr Chinedu Nwoye on the fifteenth of January at the Otuocha township stadium, saw the full participation of all the local government, having played each other home and away to get the best.

The final match was kicked off by the in-coming Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo through the in-coming Deputy Governor Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim.

The initiator of the competition and Local Organizing Committee Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Oramalu, explained that the idea was to discover the best talents Anambra has in football and make them a global brand which he said will contribute to the growth and development of the State.

The Chairman on the occasion, Mr Asha Nnabuife, Special guests, Senator Victor Umeh and Chief Romy Ezeonwuka commended the initiative saying that it’s one of the best ways to remember the resounding victory of APGA in the last Governorship election.

The Chairman of All Soludo Support Groups, Mr Nwoye in his remark, expressed belief that engaging youths through sports will help cub social vices among the youths and appreciated those that contributed to the success of the event.

Other dignitaries that graced the occasion are, the Convener of Anambra Demand Soludo, Chief Jude Emecheta, the Convener of Women Initiative for Greater Anambra, Mrs Amaka Obi, Prince Neville Uchendu of the diaspora community, transition Committee Chairmen of different local governments among others.

Certificate of participation was presented to dignitaries as Senator Victor Umeh presented the medals, cash prizes and trophy to the deserving teams as the winner Nnewi North got five hundred thousand naira, Onitsha North three hundred thousand naira, Ihiala two hundred thousand naira while the fourth position, Njikoka got one hundred thousand naira respectively.
