The atmosphere of joy was clearly evident as the Anambra State Ministry of Trade and Commerce, in collaboration with Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association, organized a sendforth ceremony in honor of Sir Uchenna Okafor, the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce.

Sir Uchenna, one of the standout aides under Governor Willie Obiano, had previously headed the Ministry of Transport.

The celebration, held in Awka, attracted traders from across markets in Anambra State and other individuals.

Blessing Uchendu was there and reports that the ceremony, held to celebrate the exemplary leadership qualities of the Commissioner, was equally an opportunity to celebrate the recent award of Distinguished Anambra Commander medal conferred on him by Governor Obiano.

In his remarks, the chairman on the occasion, Mr Tochukwu Adia, described Sir Uchenna as a man of great qualities, who has contributed to the growth of all the ministries that he oversaw.

On their parts, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Commerce, Sir Chinedu Ike and the President General of ASMATA, Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu, said that the leadership style of Sir Uchenna has been formidable, and brought series of changes in his ministry and Anambra State at large, describing him as the best hand to have headed the ministry so far.

Giving personal assessments of Sir Uchenna, the President General of Building Materials International Market, Ogidi, Chief Jude Nwankwo, the President General of Uwakwe Ukaegbu Market Umuokpu-Awka, Chief Emmanuel Achusi, his Mgbuka Obosi counterpart, Chief Samuel Ezeobodo, and the representative of the political appointees in the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, Dr Rosemary Anazodo testified of the good works of Sir Uchenna, which restored peace, unity and progress in all the markets in Anambra State, and added to the tremendous increase in the state’s revenue generation.

Responding Sir Uchenna, who stood alongside his wife, said that he would always take delight in the strong relationship that existed between him and Anambra traders, and appreciated everyone who came to honour him, promising to continue to represent all traders in his activities.

The celebration which was attended by the traditional ruler of Awkuzu Igwe Professor Charles Anikweze featured presentation of gifts, cutting of the cake, dance, among others.
