The Head of Mass Communication Department of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus, Professor Angela Nwammuo has been elected as the new Anambra State chapter Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, at the 2022 annual general meeting of the institute held at King David Hotel Awka.

Others elected officials of the institute include Associate Professor Ikenna Umeanolue, Vice Chairman , Mr. Markmike Ekwealor, Secretary, Mrs. Jane Okafor, Assistant Secretary.

Others are Mr. Sunday Okagbue, Public Relations Executive, Mrs. Jacinta Nwafor, Financial Secretary, Mr. Nnamdi Onuzuluike, Treasurer, and Dr. Ijeoma Obi, Auditor.

In his remark at an interactive session before the election, the Chief host and President of NIPR, Alhaji Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo, represented by a Member of Council, Samuel Toby Oseloka, noted that NIPR was created to manage crisis, and emphasized it’s sustained commitment to national integration, peace and security, but regretted that Nigeria is continuously being polarized.

He called for support to national leadership, and urged the Anambra State chapter of the NIPR to continuously use her pool of human resources to achieve mandate of the institute and attain greater heights.

On his part, another Council member of NIPR, Anambra State chapter, Reverend Father Professor Boniface Obiefuna thanked members and the interim executive led by Professor Chinyere Okunna for services rendered, especially being ever present, courageous and magnanimous in discharging duties.

Host and Anambra State Chairman of NIPR, Professor Okunna, in her remark explained that the interim executive body she headed,  which came on board in 2019, was able to stabilize the chapter, address some pressing issues affecting members, including establishing bonds of trust and friendship among members, building goodwill and promoting professionalism and ethical conduct.

She appreciated members and national leadership of the institute for facilitating services of her interim executive at the State level, as well as Council Member, Reverend Father Professor Obiefuna for his guidance and empowering support.

In an acceptance speech on behalf of others, the new Anambra state Chairman of NIPR, Professor Nwamuo thanked members for the opportunity, assuring that they would work harder to reposition the State chapter of the Institute, and called on members to always offer assistance to enable them succeed.

Correspondent Joseph Egbeocha reports that former Commissioner for Information in the State, Dr Tony Onyima, was a guest speaker at the event attended by the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of ABS,  Dr Uche Nworah,  former Managing Director of ABS, Lady Chinwe Nnedum, academicians and PR practitioners from different institutions in the State.
