Team Astrae has clinched the first position in the Hultprize competition of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The team got over twenty points to beat more than six teams that participated in the competition.

Queen Anigbogu reports that the competition which attracted students from various departments of the university, was organized by Awka Window on America.

Hultprize is a competition that crowd-source ideas from university students after challenging them to solve a pressing social issue around topics such as food security, water access, energy and education.

Speaking with the ABS, one of the judges, Professor Emeka Obiozor, Director of the Centre for Disability and Special Needs, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, said Hultprize is what the present society requires to get youths to focus on their skills and innovative energies to making the society better.

He told youths to know that they have the future and should begin to discover their talents and called on government to create initiatives that will support such youths.

In her remarks, Deputy Director Post-graduate school, of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Dr Martha Egenti, revealed that Awka Window on America is a resource centre where they educate, engage and empower members with a lot of programmes that border on entrepreneurship.

She explained that they engage professionals to inspire youths to develop business ideas, and their target audiences are students of secondary school and universities.

In his presentation, a resource person, Mr Chibuzo Orji, encouraged students to embrace a career while they are still in school and in developing a skill, they should develop ones that have value.

For Law Liberian, of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Chinwe Uwaechina, students should learn to share their ideas to their parents and parents should in turn support their children.

The leader of the team that won, Mr Chibuike Nebe, Astrae aimed at turning plastic waste into wealth.

Others who spoke during the event were the campus Director of Hultprize, Miss Victoria Izundu, Deputy campus Director, Mr Donatus Nwogbo among others.
