Today is ‘World Sleep Day’.
It is a day created by a group of dedicated healthcare providers and members of the medical community, who work and study in the field of sleep medicine and research.
This year’s World Sleep Day’, which has its theme as ‘‘Quality Sleep, Sound Mind, Happy World, is an annual event, intended to be a celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep, including medicine, education, social aspects and driving.
World Sleep Day is organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of World Sleep Society every third Friday in March and aimed at reducing the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders.
The first World Sleep Day was honoured globally on March fourteen, 2008 by the World Association of Sleep Medicine.
The association is of the view that if you sleep well, you will wake-up feeling refreshed, energized and will also be able to deal with any difficult situation in a positive manner.
According to medical doctors and experts, sleeping for seven to eight hours in a day is just as crucial as breathing and getting adequate sleep can help one stay alert and avoid developing Alzheimer’s disease.
