A former Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 General Elections Mr. Peter Obi has declared his aspiration to contest the 2023 Presidential election under the platform of the PDP.

 

Mr. Obi who is also a former Governor of Anambra State, declared his aspiration in Awka, during a meeting with Anambra state traditional rulers and Presidents General of various communities.

Correspondent Paul Ezeoke reports that Mr. Obi said the meeting was to disclose his aspiration and receive their royal blessings and community support before reaching out to the larger society.

 

According to the former PDP Vice Presidential Candidate, Nigeria at this point needs a president capable of uniting the country and entrenching peaceful coexistence as well as ensuring effective management of national resources.

Mr. Obi said his aspiration was in response to calls from various parts of the country to enter the race to salvage the country and lamented that the country is presently divided and needs a president that can bring every part of the country together, secure the country to attract local and foreign investors.

 

He explained that he has the knowledge, experience and expertise to harness and manage the resources of the country, invest in critical areas to create job opportunities for the teeming Nigerian youths.

Mr. Obi said he has a clear vision of how to turn around the country for sustainable growth and development as according to him, Nigeria needs a leadership with capacity and competence to engender national reorientation and change the economy from consumption to production and waste to wealth to commence reconstruction of the country.

 

In her remarks, the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife urged Ndị Anambra to see the Obi project as collective responsibility.

 

In their separate speeches, the traditional of Isseke, Igwe Emmanuel Nnabuife, that of Mbaukwu, Igwe Peter Anugwu and the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka, recalled the former governors remarkable achievements in all sectors as Governor of Anambra State and assured him that his aspiration would receive the desired support and encouragement.

 

Also speaking, the President General of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo urged the former governor to pursue his aspiration with courage and determination.

 

Highlights of the meeting were royal blessings and prayers for Mr. Obi by the royal fathers.
