Mothers in Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion today mark Mother’s Sunday of the church.

 

The commemoration which comes every fourth Sunday in Lent aims at honouring Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ and showing appreciation, honour and bring to the fore the role of mothers in the family, churches and society at large.

 

Families members including fathers, children and relations during mother’s Sunday, present gifts items, shower encomiums and love to their mothers while they prepare special ditches and other items in appreciation.

Speaking on the significance of the day, the President, Mother’s Union, Women’s Guild and Girls’Guild Province of the Niger, Mrs Martha Ibezim said that the place of women in families and church cannot be over emphasized, challenging women to be strong in the lord and in the power of his might as Christian life is a warfare.

 

Mrs Ibezim who is the wife of the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim noted that people may be strong in their tradition but God has assured and guaranteed them through Christ that no matter the challenges facing them, he is there to see them through.

 

The President Mothers’Union, reminded women of their spiritual and physical roles both in the families and church asking them to sit up and face the new trend of motherhood, which includes monitoring  their wards, being exemplary to others, obeying and respecting their husbands and make prayer their watch word.

 

She asked mothers to emulate Virgin Mary in her life of purity as well as other qualities stating that Christian mothers are good trainers and disciplinarians but lamented the high rate of divorce, separation and single parenting which she said has led to poor grooming of children, urging mothers to be persistent, dedicated and endure all so as to make their homes succeed.
