It is now twelve days after the new Anambra helmsman, Professor Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim took oath of office. Ever since that 17th March swearing-in of the duo, there has not been any spare moment as they practically hit the ground running.

If you follow the lineup of activities of the team in the first week in office, you would see a government desirous of keeping to its campaign promises and oath of office.

The eight hours Governor Soludo promised to work in the office on the first day was kept to the letter as he went in straight into the Security Council meeting with all the service chiefs in the state, after inauguration programme.

While it is not good making public security plans and strategies, it is quite instructive that the protection of lives of citizens of Anambra is paramount importance to him, by first and foremost holding the Security Council meeting.

Again, his earlier promise to move straight to Okpoko, the next morning was kept. In fact, Governor Soludo did not just under take a working tour of Okpoko with Dr. Ibezim, but they also visited all the strategic areas of Onitsha South and North.

As they moved around on foot, walking on top of the mountainous Okpoko refuse heaps, and jumping across the Sakamori drainage, the new governor was quenching the hunger and assuaging the thirst of the people of the area.

He never missed any opportunity to give them his message of hope for a prosperous livable smart city.

Governor Soludo also re-emphasized his readiness to battle a standstill touts masquerading as revenue agents. In any place he took his message to, there were thunderous applause and songs of solidarity.

Another highlight of Governor Soludo’s first week in office was the appointment of key officers of his government. It is not surprising to those who are good disciples of the Soludo Solution to see among the first six appointees, the State Accountant-General, the Chairman of Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, and the Special Adviser on Security Matters.

Very many people now know that revenue generation, prudential management of finances and the protection of lives and property are uppermost in his agenda.

Like the biblical David and his son Solomon, Governor Soludo went to God in thanksgiving and supplications on Sunday.

Soon after the Pontifical Mass at the Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Umueze Isuofia, the Governor was at the Ekwulobia Correctional Centre, where he encouraged the inmates and promised to liaise with the State Chief Judge for some kind of decongestion that is long overdue in the place.

No matter how one wants to look at it, Governor Soludo’s first one week in office will make modern history as a State Chief Executive who virtually touched all sections of the state and kept to the letters of his covenant with the people of the state, under seven days.

The tumultuous welcome he received at each place visited is an eloquent testimony of how deep and intimate the people have fallen in love with his programmes and policies.
