Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s intervention at Okpoko, Ogbaru council area, has been described as a wakeup call on other Governors to take proactive measures to rebuild and upgrade slums in their areas to give residents a sense of belonging.
Speaking in Awka, the Vice President of Ọhaneze Ndịgbo worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene said opening up such areas would have multiplier effects on neighbouring towns and communities in the areas.
Paul Ezeoke reports that Chief Okeke Ogene noted that the Governor’s intervention will save the area from possible outbreak of epidemic because of high population of people in the community, and will create new environment for socioeconomic activities to thrive with wider frontiers of opportunities for people to earn decent living.
He said transforming Okpoko to a modern city will also attract more businesses and investments that will impact positively on the lives of people in a sustainable manner.
While commending the Governor for his courage in banning touting and illegal revenue collection, Chief Okeke Ogene said this has brought big relief to the business community who suffered over the years because of menace of touting, as well as enhance image of the state, which he said has for many years been smeared by touts.
He said the ban will also enable government protect its revenue in order to serve the people better, urging traders and various organisations to assist government to achieve the set goals.
On the 2023 Presidential election, the Ohaneze Ndigbo Vice President expressed satisfaction that credible aspirants of Igbo extraction have joined the race, and assured them of support; while calling on other geo-political zones to give Ndịgbo all needed support to produce the next president of Nigeria to tackle various challenges confronting the country, as well as cement national unity.
Also speaking, a community leader, Chief Johnson Nwabuko expressed confidence that Governor Soludo will effectively deliver his manifesto and reposition Anambra for sustainable development.
Chief Nwabuko urged security agencies to ensure proper enforcement of the directive on ban on touting and illegal revenue collection.
