The Anambra State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, and the Radio, Television and Theatre Arts Workers Union, RATTAWU, have expressed implicit confidence in the ability of the Acting Managing Director of the ABS, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze to deliver even as a substantive Managing Director and Chief Executive Office of the establishment.
The unions made the call during a joint courtesy call on the Ag. MD, at the ABS Corporate Headquarters in Awka.
Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that in his speech, the state chairman of NUJ, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu noted that Mr. Okpalaeze has paid his dues through selfless service to ABS and the society in general under previous leaderships of the establishment.
Dr Odogwu affirmed that confirming Mr. Okpalaeze as a substantive Managing Director of the ABS, will be the right decision for the administration of Professor Chukwuma Soludo appealing for more synergy between the ABS and NUJ Anambra State Chapter.
In their remarks, the South East Vice President of RATTAWU, Prince Emeka Kalu, and the Anambra State Chairman of the union, Comrade Andy Onwughalu lauded Professor Soludo for acknowledging the talents in ABS hence, the inclusion of two members of the ABS family in the list of his commissioner nominees noting that the confirmation of the ABS Ag MD, Mr. Okpalaeze will be a plus to his administration.

Managing Director of ABS, as according to him, the station has all it takes to manage its affairs and promote government programmes and policies.
Responding, the Ag MD, Mr. Okpalaeze, thanked the unions on the visit and support and while assuring the unalloyed support and partnership of the ABS, explained that his leadership is already working round the clock to ensure improvement in various areas, especially workers’ welfare.
Mr. Okpalaeze disclosed that within the short period in office, he had also got the Startimes to improve ABS reach to cover Onitsha and Asaba respectively, as against only Awka it was covering before now.
The ABS Director of Administration, Lady Tina Ekenta, her Commercial Services counterpart, Lady Beatrice Akwanamnye, NUJ Anambra State Vice Chairman, Comrade Ngozi Obileri were among those present at the meeting after which members of both unions moved a vote of confidence on Mr. Okpalaeze as a worthy MD of the ABS.
