Anambra State Government has initiated discussions aimed at achieving a more peaceful and prosperous Anambra and South-East region.

To achieve this Governor Chukwuma Soludo yesterday convoked a one-day peace building and security dialogue in Awka.

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that stakeholders in the State including Security Chiefs, Religious Leaders, Community Leaders, among others, converged on Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center in Awka to make a clarion call for the release of Mr Nnamdi Kanu to restore stability and enable the country move on seamlessly .

Reading out a Joint Statement by the Government of Anambra State and the Joint Body of South-East Council of Traditional Rulers, Bishops and Archbishops on the State of Insecurity in the South-East the Chairman of Anambra State and South-East Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe of Onitsha who said that the discussion started long ago, revealed that the Indigenous People of Biafra has long canceled the sit at home which has unfortunately become counterproductive.

Igwe Achebe who noted that there is agitation for the restructuring of the country for greater inclusion as there is economic marginalization of the South-East, called for the unconditional release of Mr Nnamdi Kanu by the federal government in order to douse the tension in the South-East towards a peaceful resolution of the issues.

Igwe Achebe said that tomorrow has been set aside as a day of prayer for Ndi Anambra which will take place in Churches across Igbo land, expressing optimism that the conclusion of the prayers shall mark an end to the sit at home in Anambra and the South-East region.

While appreciating the joint statement, Governor Chukwuma Soludo who said that Anambra, South-East and Nigeria are all in a regrettable State of insecurity, cautioned that the spirit of Anambra does not accommodate bloodshed and  violence, canvassing for an end to all forms of agitations as the dialogue is ongoing.

The Governor supported the position of the joint body and expressed that  Nnamdi Kanu will receive expeditious justice.

Supporting and adopting the communiqué, the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly Mrs Uche Ekwunife, called for investment of resources in intelligence gathering, just as the Member representing Ekwusigo, Nnewi North and South Federal Constituency, Dr Chris Azubogu called for the creation of a special channel where relevant information can be passed through.

Others who spoke including Senator Ben Ndi-Obi, Anambra State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, Venerable Joseph Nweke, Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, Vice President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene, Chairman of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Chief Titus Akpudo, among others traced the root cause of the problem including injustice, marginalization, poor parenting, among others, calling for a sincere truce and rebranding.
