The ever-busy Awka Road Inland Town Onitsha stood still yesterday due the evacuation of a refuse dump at Okosi Road junction by Awka Road.

Correspondent Emengini Osadebe who monitored the exercise reports that the evacuation exercise was personally supervised by the Deputy Governor Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim and other top government officials.

Residents of the area expressed gratitude to the new government led by Professor Chukwuma Soludo for the move pledging their unalloyed support.

Meanwhile desilting of drainage channels at the inland Town axis of Onitsha witnessed low turnout of residents as few people especially children were seen evacuating debris from the drains.

Some of them who spoke to the ABS were of the view that if the debris were not evacuated to its final dumpsites all their efforts will be in vain hence, they decided to bag the refuse.

They pleaded with the relevant authority to help them in evacuating the refuse.
