Women have been asked to take up political positions as the ruling All Progressives Congress APC says it will give free Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to female aspirants in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
The party’s National Woman leader, Dr Betta Edu, who said this at a news conference in Abuja noted the decision was taken to encourage capable women in the party who wanted to seek elective offices but lacked the finance.
She thanked members of the All-Progressives Congress National Working Committee for supporting the decision, adding that it showed that the party and its leadership are gender-sensitive and poised to mainstream All Progressives Congress women and appealed to Nigerian women to join the All-Progressives Congress as the largest party in the country to benefit from the latest gesture.
Dr Edu commended the party leadership especially the wife of the president Mrs Aisha Buhari for doing a lot for mainstream women generally describing her as a mother with a conscience who had performed exceptionally well to give women a sense of belonging in the party.
She added that All Progressives Congress women stood for inclusion and mainstreaming of women in national politics saying that the party has shown this by approving that woman will be running on a free nomination form in the party.
According to her, in the past, there were capable who say they cannot afford the forms, they are vulnerable and unable but now, have been given the platform with the greatest chance of emerging as a winner of an election, because they will be running on the ticket of the ruling party that has performed and gender-sensitive.
The All-Progressives Congress woman leader, charged women to sensitize themselves on the need to get their Personal Voter Cards PVC from the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, rise and take the challenge by coming out to be actively involved, informing that the party is going into series of processes that will lead up to the 2023 general elections.
