Anambra state Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has been urged not to ignore journalists in his administration, as they are essential part of a democratic society.

 

A patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Reverend Dr Dada Obi made the appeal when the Executive members of NUJ in the state led by Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu paid him a solidarity visit in his home at Nanka, Orumba North local government area.

 

Correspondent, Emmanuel Chigbata reports that while  describing Professor Soludo as a renowned economist and intellectual, whose vision is to make Anambra a prosperous homeland, Dr Obi, who is the General Overseer, Tree of Life Gospel Ministry urged him to give needed attention to journalists in the state, describing them as the mouthpiece of the society.

 

He praised the critical role journalists play in the society, adding that NUJ, with herculean and sensitive job, has done tremendously well for the progress of the state.

 

Dr Obi, an Ambassador of Peace, who thanked the State Executive Council of NUJ for their visit, promised to give maximum support to the union, and called for unity of purpose among them.

 

He used the opportunity to call for the promotion of Igbo culture and tradition, in order not to allow it go into extinction.

 

Earlier, the Anambra state Chairman of the union, Dr Odogwu explained that the aim of the visit was to pay homage and solidarity to one of their respected patrons and spiritual leader, whose humanitarian acts he said have continued to touch lives of members of his community and beyond.

 

In their remarks, a former Chairman of the union, Comrade Chris Aghanya called on members to always work in harmony and relate with their patrons at all times, while the Internal Auditor of the union, Comrade Gloria Iloanya thanked Dr. Obi for his warm reception.

 

Other Executives member of Nigeria Union of Journalists present at the visit were the Vice President, Comrade Ngozi Obileri, Secretary, Comrade Aloysius Ofordile, among others.
