Desilting of Okpoko Sakamori in Ogbaru Council Area  has commenced as promised by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to ensure free flow of water and reduce devastation of flooding.
ABS reporter,Oggorchukwu Oranu who monitored level of work there, reports that the work is progressing as escalators were seen removing debris from the  Sakamori and emptying it into Tipper lorries which cart them away  .
The contractor, Mr.Fadi Hazim from Kauwanbin Construction firm handling the project, said they have cleared up to three hundred meters of the drainage and hopefully will do majority of the work before the week runs out.
Speaking to the ABS ,The President General of Okpoko, Chief Francis Enemuo expressed delight that work has started at the Sakamori as promised by the Governor pointing out that widening of the Idemili River where it connects with the Sakamori will enable the river to take the heavy flood from the Sakamori and discharges it into the River Niger.
Chief Enemuo cautioned Okpoko residents against  dropping waste inside drainages urging them to give the Governor all the support he needs  to deliver his mandate to the people.
On his part,Deacon Ngozi Egeonu in charge of Fruits and Vegetables Market,said desilting of the Sakamori which is being handled by foreign firm will boost their business activities, commending Governor Soludo for starting work with sanitation which according to him is vital to human health.
Meanwhile, scavengers, mostly young boys were seen scrambling for scrap from the debris pulled out from the Sakamori to make a living.
