The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province Most Reverend Valerian Okeke has charged Christians to develop a good relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Archbishop Okeke who spoke during the 2022 Chrism Mass at the Basilica of The Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha which drew thousands of Catholic Faithful from parishes under the Onitsha Zone also gave teachings to correct some misconceptions about the Holy Spirit and explained the role of the Holy Spirit in salvation history.

The Archbishop in his homily titled “The Holy Spirit, Man’s Helper And Friend” stressed that the Holy Spirit is not an object or weapon or any available instrument used against the enemy, stating that the Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity which teaches, commands, advocates, instructs and comforts Christians.

Most Reverend Okeke who further said that the Holy Spirit inspires fire of love among Christians, empowers Christians to discern signs of the time, urged the people of God to invoke and devote themselves to the Holy Spirit.

He thanked the Catholic faithful of the Archdiocese for being supportive of the church explaining that Chrism Mass marks the gift of the priesthood where priests rededicate themselves.

The Archbishop expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to celebrate this year’s Chrism mass despite the challenges of the time and prayed for peace in Anambra and Nigeria at large.
