Anambra state government has been called upon to facilitate the process of upgrading Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe to a University of Education.
The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra state council, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, made the call when he led members of his executive on a courtesy call on the Provost of the institution, Mrs Ifeyinwa Osegbo at her office.
While congratulating the provost on her second term in office as the Provost of the College, Dr Odogwu commended her for all the achievements she recorded so far especially in staff welfare and instilling discipline in the students, including infrastructural development in the school.
Dr Odogwu said part of the reason for the visit was to solicit partnership between the school and NUJ, noting that the union has been at the forefront of informing the public of all the events as they unfold in the state, especially government programmes and policies.
Receiving the group, Dr Osegbo commended NUJ for the good job they are doing in championing development in the society, advising them to sustain the tempo no matter the situation.
Dr Osegbo also appreciated the Anambra state government for all its support and appealed to the government to asphalt the school premises to give it a befitting look and also do perimeter fencing around the school to ensure the safety of lives and property in the school.
In a vote of thanks, the Assistant Secretary of the Union, Comrade Okechukwu Onuegbu, thanked the Provost for the reception given to them and for accepting partnership with the union for the goal of all concerned.
