Architect Shedrack Onwuasoanya has been elected the President General of Oraukwu, in ldemili North Council area of Anambra state.

The election attracted Oraukwu prominent citizens including, the traditional ruler of Oraukwu, Igwe Emeka Onuorah, who was represented by the Onowu of the community, Chief Patrick Oyiduba, among other cabinet chiefs

Correspondent Festus Obierka who covered the election reports that the election started with the accreditation of twelve delegates from all the villages in Oraukwu as the constitution stipulates.

Chief Oyiduba on behalf of the Igwe and the people of Oraukwu welcomed all the accredited delegates and called for calmness and maturity in order to have a peaceful election, after which the chairman of Oraukwu Electoral Commission, Mr. Ekenwe Udoaraka read the Oraukwu constitution and bylaw section to the delegates and solicited for a free and fair election.

During the election, Architect Shedrack Onwuasoanya emerged as the new President general, with a total of forty-five votes to beat the other three contestants and was declared winner by the Electoral officer.

Other officials elected were Chief Raymond Uchenna Mbaduagha, Vice President General, Mr. Joseph Ogbuwelu, the Secretary-General was elected unopposed while Mr. David Onunkwo was elected as the Assistant Secretary General.

Other were, Mr. Godwin Oguuno, the Financial Secretary, the post of the Treasurer went to Mr. Chukwuma Udo, Public Relations Officer is Barrister Tochukwu Chinaemelu, Mr. Okwuchukwu Ojikwu was the Provost and Barrister Udoka Obijiofor was elected as the Legal Adviser of the town union.

Speaking to the ABS, the immediate-past President General of the community Sir Cyril Ejidike who expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, said that it was smoothly done and appreciated the people for the confidence reposed in him while in office and promised to give his support to the new executive and called on the people of Oraukwu to give them unflinching support to discharge their duties creditably.

In his acceptance speech, the new President General, Architect Onwuasoanya expressed  gratitude to God on behalf of the new executive and promised to work assiduously with his team to add to the successes recorded by his predecessor as well as to take the community to the next level and promised that they will give the state Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo all the necessary support for him to succeed.

In their separate remarks, two of the contestants, Chief Benjamin Ugonabor and Sir Chika Ogbumedu, promised to work with the new town union executive to make Oraukwu a better community.

The election was witnessed by the delegates from the office of the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Town Union Matters.
