For one to reach the age of ninety-eight really calls for celebration.
No wonder the children of the late Ezinne Bennedette Ikegbunam-Okeke gave her a befitting burial, as people from all walks of life came from far and near to join in the celebration of the life of the matriarch.
Staff reporter Njideka Okoye covered the event and reports that in a homily during burial mass held in her honour at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor said that the late Ezinne Ikegbunam-Okeke lived a good life and served God even at old age, and urged the children to emulate her good legacy.
Bishop Ezeokafor urged the congregation to keep the commandment of God, love God and their fellow human beings in order to make heaven, stressing the need to take good care of the elderly, give them befitting living before befitting burial.
In a vote of thanks during the burial service, the first son of the deceased, Sir Linus Ikegbunam appreciated Bishop Ezeokafor, host of Reverend Fathers and Sisters, and all who came to commiserate with them and prayed for God’s blessings on them.
The last son of the deceased, Engineer Okwudili Ikegbunam thanked God for the good life of their mother, noting that though their mother lived long, she will be greatly missed, and promised to sustain her legacy.
On her part, the first daughter of the deceased, Mrs Ogochukwu Okeke said that words cannot be enough to describe their mother, whom she said was known for her kindness, charitable works and service to God and humanity, while one of her daughters-in-law, Mrs Amaka Damian – Ikegbunam described her as an epitome of peace and a mother to those that came around her, thanking God for the gift of long life for the deceased.
Some of those who came to commiserate with the bereaved family, including Honourable Dozie Nwankwo, Engineer Basil Mbanefo, Dr Cyril Udeh, Engineer Bartholomew Anigbogu gave testimonies of the virtues of the deceased, urging the children to toe the path of their late mother.
The burial ceremony featured dance by the Catholic Women Organization, CWO, and condolence visits by relations, in-laws, friends and well-wishers.
